With 2.3 Weather-Beaten Journals can be found in at least Curious Crates, Heavy Supply Crate, Iron Bound Trunk, Mithril Bound Trunk, Watertight Trunk and (very rarely) Tightly Sealed Trunk. Drop rate is best for Curious Crates (about 50% contain a journal), however other trunks may be easier to fish. El's Anglin article.

Click on the "Use:" description and you will find that it's an ability similar to mineral/herb tracking.

Patch Day: 11-13-07, found one in my first AND second Heavy Supply Crate in Zangarmarsh from a Steam Pump Flotsam debris spawn. The Book itself is BoP, however the crates are not. Look before you loot (turn off that auto-loot feature you have your fishing mod do) and then you may be able to sell it. This post is too early to tell how much it will go for on market, but it seemed easy enough to get to not be worth the hassle of an AH.

I don't think boxes are able to be sold on the AH, you would need to sell it in the trade channel.

Got the book after about 5 mins of fishing in Nagrand. Came out of a pure water. Really nice to be able to track the pools now!

I can confirm that the Steam Pump Flotsam pools in Zangarmarsh are great sources for the Heavy Supply Crates, hence the Weather-Beaten Journal as well.

Got one in Zangarmarsh on the third steam pump flotsam pool. I suspect these will be fairly common based on the comment above. Not sure whether once you have it you see another one. But if I do will try the theory of selling the crate :-)

Your best bet is certainly Zangarmarsh, specifically the steam pump wreckage pools.

These pools can drop both a Curious Crate and a Heavy Supply Crate, but you seem to always get a Heavy Supply Crate per pool. Took me two pools, which yielded one Curious Crate, and two Heavy Supply Crates, and it dropped from the second Heavy Supply Crate.

Really easy to get. Found a Steam Pump Flotsam and it took about 2 minutes (3 tosses) and it was in a curious crate I fished.

I tried thrice so far and it took me 2 hours. No luck yet, I've seen Curious Crate "drop" twice and none of them contained the book. Why everyone keep saying it's so easy to get? *shrug*

for all you guys and gals out there who arent level 70, a good place to get this is Stonetalon Mountains in the Windshear Crag. all the pools that spawn there are either Floating Wreckages or Oil Spills, both of which drop the Watertight Trunks which also contain the journal. Got mine in about ten minutes in my fifth Watertight Trunk ;) Happy fishin'

In my opinion the best place to fish trunks is azeroth , it has much more pools of crates , even if the % of having a journal is lower.

Here is how i got 2 journals (one for my main and the other for my brothers main):

1. Travel to Hillsbrad Foothills
2. Mount up and ride from Tarren Mill to the river and downstream to the coast
3. The objective a pool with crates ; riding along the coast heading east i saw lots of fish pools (firefin , blackmouth) , and then i found a pool with crates .
4. Fished 4 times
5. 1st & 2nd Rumsey Rum Dark , 3rd & 4th Watertight Trunk
6. 1st trunk - 1 Journal and Bolt of Woolen Cloth
7. 2nd trunk - Bolt of Woolen Cloth + potion + 2 greens (!!)
8. learned the journal with my main and looted the greens and Bolt of Woolen Cloth
9. Sent the 2nd trunk without the greens to my brother by mail
10. My brother open the trunk ->1 Journal and the potion
11. After that i sent the 2nd trunk that still had a potion to the alts but no journals this time.

Maybe I was lucky ; please post if u had a similar experience.

The fishing time was around 0:00 AM.

You cannot see the book if you've already learned the skill. I had 3 crates with books in them and I used one of them, then when I looked into another again it dissapeared.

You can, however, send all your crates to an alt who doesn't have the skill. The alt needs to have 1 or higher fishing skill to see the book. (Needs to have trained fishing.)

Well, I fished up a bunch of Curious Crates on my main (who'd already learned fish tracking) and tossed them in the mail to my banker, on the off chance that I might find another journal IF someone besides my main opened the crate.

The good news is, I did find one. I left it safely in its crate, because my banker only has a fishing skill of 1. I asked in Trade if anyone wanted it, got a response, and a trade followed. Curiously (ha) the Curious Crate appeared empty to my client, and she told me so. I had no issues returning her money, and she traded the Crate back to me. It seems she didn't have any fishing skill whatsoever (that's the impression I got). I checked the crate once it was back on me, and the Journal remained safely in place. I tossed it to another alt of mine, again with fishing skill (a mere 4), and that character could see the Journal as well.

I think this item is much like the BoP recipes found throughout the Outlands. If you don't have the skill, you can't see the prize. That means you CAN buy this from another player, so long as it remains in the Crate that holds it. And, if you trade it to someone else and they claim they didn't get a Journal out of it, you should demand your Crate back, in exchange for their money. The Crate looks empty but remains in their inventory, and there's no good reason (as of my posting this) that they shouldn't be able to return it.

Today on my lvl 25 rogue i was lvl'ng fishing right next to taren mill on a sage fish node and watertight trunk droped in the second node i hit, and this was in it...very lucky if you ask me

Checked yesterday that pure water pools can be tracked, probably it will track pool of elementals in azshara.

Flew around Zangarmarsh for 5 minutes and found a floating wreckage.Fished once and got a Heavy Supply Crate looted it and got the book. Fished 2 times more and got 2 Goldenscale Vendorfish. Luck huh?

Was cleaning my bank alt today and found a Curious Crate lying around (must have been there for weeks). I peek inside it and see one of these journals :DThe 2.3 patch spawned this book inside my unlooted crate!Mailed the box to my main double-time.

I fished for this in Stranglethron and after catching 13 mithril bound trunks i got 3 of them (i didnt open them at all til i got all 13). I suggest fishing for them there, there's usually nobody fishing off the coast so there's plenty of wreckage. Also i don't know about any other servers but i am able to sell the trunk with this in it for about 5G almost immediately, im sure it'll go down once people realize how easy it is to get, but for now, enjoy some good cash from quick fishing.

Also as a quick note, after i had learned the first journal, i was unable to open any crates that had the journal in it (i had auto loot on). If i turned auto loot off, the crates appeared to be empty (although it didnt delete it because i sent the trunks to an alt and he saw the journals just fine).

I fished in Zangarmarsh last night for about 20 minutes and in that time I fished out about 7 or 8 wreckage pools. I caught many crates, but not one had the Journal.

yea, i just got mine 5 minutes ago. I only captured 1 curious crate, but mine dropped from the heavy supply crate. on the good side of this, broken engine part can be fished. The engine part could be sold for 10g for 1 piece. I had 2. thats an easy 20g. hope this helps if you are trying to raise money and capture the book!

I went to WoWHeads page for Curious Crates ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27513 ) since that is reportedly the highest drop rate source. Made circles around the lakes in Zangarmarsh for about 30 min fishing the "Steam pump flotsam", had about 8 crates drop before I got the journal. Very easy to get, just a small time investment.

Easiest way to get this is searching for the Steam Pump Flotsams in the lakes in Zangarmarsh.On average you get 2-3 Heavy Supply Crate from each school.The crates then have about 11% to actually drop a journal.

Went to Shadowprey Village in Desolace and found a pile of floating wreckage near the dock. I casted my line, and immediately pulled up a box (the name of which I have since forgotten...). This first box yielded the book.

At the time, I had 155 fishing and was using Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 with bright baubles.

Pulled 5 Iron Bound Trunks from the northern coast of Stranglethorn Vale and 4 contained the book. So, I was either really lucky or this isn't as rare as it looks from the numbers given here. And no need to wait for the outlands to try to get this.

Just remember to not auto loot the boxes if you want to sell or give these books to alts or friends.

If you've already auto-looted the book, or used it already, don't open any boxes you've found. Send them off to an alt, and have them check. As long as they have at least 1 point in fishing, they'll see a book if it's there. Out of 2 Curious Crates and about 8 Heavy Supply Crates, I found 3 Weather-beaten journals.

Just fished this out of a Watertight Trunk from a Sagefish School in the river east of Tarren Mill and Southshore. :D Fishing skill only at 110 at the time, so it seems to be easy for most levels to get.

Questing in Stranglethorn on my 43 rogue, I saw some floating reckage, thought why not... started fishing, just for fun and fishing levels, and got this baby. Had no idea what it was or what it did so I found myself here, W00t lucky me! ^__^

Definitely clarified. As long as you possess ONE of these books, have learned the ability already or looted the book: you will NOT see another one, no matter how many chests you loot. The item is not marked unique but it's definitely obvious that as long as you own one in one form or fashion, you won't get another one to drop or see one in another chest. Out of a FishTrack of 15 chests, I got mine on the 3rd looted chest and the othe 12 were all empty.

If you DO want to sell them or anything, a poster above advised that you send unlooted boxes to alts. I've done this and found it to be true that the main who fished it up, and has the ability already won't see the book in the crate/box. I've sent looted boxes as well to alts and miraculously in one instance so far out of 4 alts: found a fishing book in it that the previous toon could not see.

So, for fun and profit: if you want more than 1 toon to learn this ability: if you DO loot the crate, don't take the book out. Send it to another toon and fish till you get another one. Repeat until all your necessary toons have a book each then learn the last one yourself.

This book is profit on servers: I've gained an even 20-30G for it when selling it on Trade chat.

Just got this out of a curious crate from a highland mixed school, up in skettis. This is my new favorite tracking ability, and I always have it on whenever I go to skettis for dailies/forest-rager farming. The crawdads and golden darters are a goldmine.

i recently got this item off a watertight trunk while fishing in some wreckage by menethil harbor. it was an awesome find, but the problem is the journal requires fishing 100 and i cant use it with a fishing level of 138. are there any additional requirements (such as level) that arent listed? Im currently level 23

Not too long ago I fished up a crate while already knowing the "Find Fish" ability. Opened up the crate, nothing inside, but it didn't disappear from my inventory, so I thought it might contain the book.

Sent it over to a guildie and yup, it contained the Find Fish book. Im not kidding.

So unlike someone far above me mentioned (a post with about 30 + rating), you CAN fish up a crate with a journal inside and still sell it to someone else!

After some testing of my own, I'd like to change something about your statement.

After fishing up 20 containers from standard pools (Curious Crates, in case you were curious... oh god, I made a pun!) that has fish tracking and sending them to a high level alt with level 1 fishing, 11 of them had a journal in them, roughly a 50% drop rate.

I will keep sending them to an alt to try and confirm this, I plan on giving one to all my guildies that don't have it yet, and selling the rest.

sent 28 Iron Bound Trunks and 18 Tightly Sealed Trunks to a bank alt with fishing 83, but no tracking yet(100 skill required) got 5 Weather-Beaten Journals total. 3/2sold them for 3 to 4 gold each in their box.

I just fished Umbrafen Lake in Zangermarsh... I guess I got lucky found in second Steampump Flotsam I found. Found with a lvl 64 toon and 305 fishing skill.

I found this on my level 31 mage, fishing in floating wreckage in hillsbrad, just outside southshore. first box i had, opened it and the book was in! was 185 fishing too.

Found mine at Mirkfallon Lake in Stonetalon Mountains while fishing for sagefish. While the sagefish pools are never ending it took approx 30min before a wreckage pool showed up pulled a Watertight trunk on the fourth cast with the journal intact. 47.38 at the time of the catch but considering the lake is a circle should be hard to find a pool of wreckage when it does spawn

My girlfriend and I are leveling Horde alts. Her fishing is ~170 and mine is ~100.

We swung over to Alterac to fish up some Raw Greater Sagefish for cooking. Within 20 minutes she had fished up 4 Iron Bound Trunks.

She started looking in the trunks and got her journal from the second one. She then traded me the remaining two trunks and I found a journal in the first one that I opened.

Don't trust the drop chance that is listed on Wowhead because people who already have the journal are skewing it as they will never see it drop again.

In one day I fished three of these out of the Desolace waters while lvling my fishing/cooking. I shift/clicked the chests I obtained so as not to loot them first and was able to distribute this to not only my shaman, but my druid and lock as well. I knew the certain chests that held these books as I'd gotten it previously on my hunter. A friend of mine looted his from a curious crate though all 4 of mine came from iron bound trunks. I guess I'd had luck on my side.

I found mine in a Mithril Bound Trunk while I was fishing at Steamweedle Port in Tanaris to level fishing and cooking. I had caught about 10 Trunks in a row at the pier in open water (no floating wreckage), one of which contained the journal. I was delighted!!

Confirmed. You need to have the Fishing Skill to be able to get the book out of a container.

After all of my "regular" characters had received the book, I sent all trunks that came up to my bank character unopened. He opened all containers which vanished regularly after the contents had been removed, but one container simply did not open for him, as much as I clicked on it. I then realised that this bank character didn't have the Fishing Skill yet, so I went and got the skill for him. As soon as I did, he was able to open the container, which contained nothing but the book.

Got mine from a pool of Sagefish in Hillsbrad Foothills in a Watertight Trunk. Wasn't really expecting it as I didn't know it would drop in such a low level area :)

fished one of them @ about 24,68 in Hillsbrad Foothills from a Floating Wreckage.Made 5 attempts, 4 of them gave me rum, one gave me a watertight trunk without the journal,but the first one was completely successfull.

Farmed Steam-Pump Flotsam exclusively for an hour in Zangarmarsh. Received lots of nicely vendorable wreckage (19g), an engine part (10g), a vendorfish (6g), 5 Curious Crates and 23 Heavy Supply Crates.

From the crates I got 18 Knothide Leather Scraps (only from Curious Crates - it's the only tradeskill loot they held), 14 Handfuls of Fel Iron Bolts, 19 Fel Iron Ore, 6 White Smoke Flames, 9 Elemental Blasting Powders, and 9 Weather-Beaten Journals (3 in Curious Crates, 6 in Heavy Supply Crates).

I had accidentally opened one of the crates on my main fisherman, but when I opened the same crate on my banker it contained a Journal, so obviously they don't despawn unless you empty the crate and already know the skill.

This took me many tries to actually loot. I fished in the river next to Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills. My goal was to fish from the pools there and loot the Watertight Trunk which has a 5% drop rate at these pools. It took me at least 20 trunks to finally loot the journal but now I'm ready for Stranglethorn Vale with my 19 twink!

For some reason I am able to find fish and herbs at the same time. Probably a bug, but still cool.

I have find herb on my action bar. And I use the search icon on the compass ( the minimap in the top right). And Bam!Firefin to the left of me, briar thorn to the right.

I was reading the posts here after hearing about the weather beaten journal while reading about a fishing hat. I heard there was a daily fishing quest that required a skill of one. I was lvling my low lvl fishing and decided to check out the quest. What do u know, it was the lvl one fishing quest today. I did the quest and got the weather beaten journal off my first bag of fishing treasures.

This item is Binds when picked up, but you can sell it to players if you keep it in the container and sell the container, but the player youre selling it to must trust you since it doesnt have to be in the container.

decided to get this to help with fish farming, so i first headed off to silverpine forest, to try the wreckage there, but it failed big time, the only chests i was getting were the one with the lowest drop rate(tightly sealed chest). so i decided to go to ashenvale, like i read on a website( http://www.elsanglin.com/ )and started fishing at the sagefish pools near the alliance village, got 3 chests b4 i ran out of pools( couldn't find any wreckage to fish in only sagefish) got it in my first water tight trunk, got lucky, but you might too, only, just be careful, the alliance guards don't like trolls for some reason, so try to stay on the outside of the city lol

a few tip i feel like adding when fishing for anything

1) most people proly know this. but you dont need to move to recast fishing, just press the skill again2)if you have a pet, put it on agressive mode if not too many mobs are around, he will stop any roamer form attacking you by attacking him first, so youl be able to get you fish, finish off the mob, start fishing again.3)for speed fishing, make a key cast fishing(only temporary o/c) that way, you can press the key as soon as you catch a fish, to fish again at lighting speed4) go to the inteface options and turn autoloot on, that wayyou automaticly get the fish when you catch it.5)position your mouse over the bob before it sinks, that way, you wont miss the fish.6)learn the sound of the bobber sinking and raise the volume, that way you dont need to be looking all the time, you only need to right click

Fishing greater sagefish pools (and the occasional floating wreckage spawn) in Alterac with my lv22 hunter (225 fishing). Got the journal after 9-10 Iron Bound crates. I fished about 6 more crates with no more journals before calling it a day.

Net loots: 66 greater sagefish, 11 bolts mageweave/silk, 7 greater healing potions, 4 mana potions, 6 thick leather, 4 heavy leather, approx 80 silver and 1 Journal.

Well it was a late night and I went to continue my fishing beyond 300 to Umbrafen Lake in Zangarmarsh. Had only 1 Aquadynamic Fish Attractor left in my inventory so I decided to apply it and fish for 10 mins and then go to sleep. With my last catch (before Aquadynamic effect faded away) I got Curious Crate... (the first Curious Crate I have even fished). So I opened it and Weather-Beaten Journal was there! That was a lucky end of session :)

Wow. I went to the stonetalon mountains, to the venture co. area and fished in a single oil spill. Caught four firefin snappers and one watertight trunk. I caught these things almost as soon as I got there, and the journal was inside this first watertight trunk.

I doubt it will be like that for everyone, but my guess is that it's relatively probable you will get it within ten of those watertight trunks. Read on El's Extreme Anglin' article that these trunks had a 25% drop rate for the journals.

youve made such a discovery only by that, that zangarmarsh seems to be the most fished zone since the tbc, the droprate from the boxes is all the same - about 15% since you can only loot it once after you have learnt it.

If it were truly the case that zangarmarsh was the most fished zone, then the apparent drop rate of the one-per-customer item would be lowest, assuming, as done here, that it has a flat droprate consistent throughout all zones.

Nearly all of my alts on one server have this. The journal (or rather, the trunk containing it) has usually turned up in wreckage of one sort or another.

I have, however, confirmed that—as others have stated—it also turns up in fish schools and Stonetalon Mountains oil spills. So don't rule those out.

And yes, it can be transferred to another character. Just don't loot the journal.

I was in Southshore the other day and ran over to the dock to see what fish were in the water. There was some Schooner Wreckage floating there so I got out my fishing pole to get credit toward The Scavenger. The journal was in the first trunk I pulled up. This is also the first trunk I've fished up of any type. Just goes to show that sometimes the random number generator likes you, and sometimes it just won't let you get what you want.

Recieved mine on my second Bloodsail Wreckage Pool, outside of Booty Bay to the East. I've suggested the same to my friends trying to find the journal and they've all had similar results, 1-3 pools and they get it. On top of which, the pools have a quick respawn timer, so the best bet is to find them (if you're having trouble, grab a mod like Gathermate from www.curse.com to help).

I picked up the journal at a skill lvl of 180-ish. After searching and fishing for all schooner wreckages (Southshore, STV) found in those two areas, I checked out the oil spills in Windshear Crag, and FINALLY got it off my 8-10th pool.

What I haven't read yet is that to use this it is the same button that you track for herbs/mining...this same button you can look for repair stations, prof trainers, class trainers, etc. You just click it and the list appears, it should be the first one that appears.

The best way to find is in schools of fish with wreckage in them around the edges of lake serpent is Zangarmarsh. You get curious crates and there it is. Took me about 5 schools and 5 minutes.

I'm not sure, but Mithril Bound Trunk seems to have a pretty big chance do 'drop' from schools in Strangethorn Vale. I got 4 trunks in quick succession, and the fourth contained the journal. It's possible that I just was extremely lucky, but this is definitely worth testing.

easy as hell to get just go down to zangarmarsh above coilfang reservoir fish from the steam pump floatsam(or any other wreckage) and boom book is right there literaly took me 5 mins, what i did is i went down to zangar found some wreckage fished till i made sure i was in the wreckage area once in just waited got a couple of crates opened em nothing then tht wreckage went try so i went to another one (really close by) and fished there 2 catches in there and i had it

I can vouch Zangarmarsh to be the place to get this journal. I got the journal on my second cast into a pool of Sporefish. This was with my Shaman. Later on the same day I decided to try my luck with my Warrior. I cast into the first pool I saw in The Lagoon, and it was as well a Sporefish pool. My fourth cast netted me the book.

So in conclusion, you get this journal from Sporefish pools as well. Both of my 80's got theirs in <5min. Good luck and happy fishing.

First time I get the quest with my Death Knight Fellblood Fillet, my fishing skill are 276(+100)/375 and the quest reward is the Bag of Fishing Treasures, which drop to me in the same moment, the Captain Rumsey´s Lager and 2 Elixir of Water Walking !

Just getting in the 310 of fishing now, and at now, I fish 3 more Curious Crates in fishing schools of Zangarmash, and send to my 2 other alts (Hunter 80 and Druid 61 with 225 and 275 fishing skill), 1 of them drops trash, but the other 2, one of them have the the Weather-Beaten Journal :), and last one to send to my other alt, guess what?More Weather-Beaten Journal ! Now all my chars have the Find Fish skill! 3 in 4 is good no?

Can confirm that if your fishing lvl is below 275 then around Southshore jetty is the place to get the journal. I spent 2 hours in Zangarmarsh then went to Southshore, and got the drop on the 2nd cast from a Water tight chest. Don't waste your time going anywhere else !

The best place there is for this item, I believe, Is the stream just east of southshore.

I have learned this skill on all my toons (except one lol) from fish the sagefish schools i get atleast one per 3 pools.

Send all boxes unopened to a lowbie alt that hasnt learned this skill and has trained fishing.

Ive gotten anywhere from 10g-50g for these. I dont put a price when in /2 and most replys say how much they will pay for this.

You can fish it lvl 18-20ish at Cragpool Lake in Windshear Crag (Stonetalon Mountains). Just look for the schooner wreckage. No need to go to higher lvl areas like STV, Desolace, or Southshore.

I've found the Weather-Beaten Journal on various characters throughout the game. I found it many times on my Horde toons in the pond just outside Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills (if you aren't on a PVP server, this is also viable for Alliance toons). For my Alliance toons, I've fished it up in Auberdine, Darkshore. It is not necessary to fish in flotsam as I've gotten crates and boxes from normal fish pools. Good luck to all!

A word of warning if you transfer servers with these books in crates. The contents of the crates will be randomized, and the books will be lost. I found this out the hard way, unfortunately, as I lost two books.

My brother and I both looked for these at the same time, went to the lake north of the river in Windshear Crag, and fished Watertight Trunks out of Schooner Wreckage spawns. Neither of us had Find Fish but were both over Fishing 100. The first trunk I managed to fish up had a Weather-Beaten Journal, and the first one my brother fished up also contained it. This pretty much shows that these are really easy to obtain, if the conditions are right. By the way, in order to find the Wreckage spawns once mine disappeared, I used Find Fish to find others for my brother :). Just a warning, the area was swarming with Venture Co. mobs around levels 18-20. Good Luck!

This is just my experience, however I have 3 chars with fish tracking and all three found the Weather Beaten Journal in mithril sealed trunks in fishing pools in feralas (the most recent in an oily blackmouth pool oddly enough.)

I followed the advice of another here and fished some pools at Windshear Crag in the Stonetalon Mountains. Given the amount of water, it seemed as if there were always pools of oil or wreckage. Took me about 20-30 minutes, 15 pools, and 7 or 8 watertight trunks before I finally pulled a journal out.

Your best bet is to go to eastern Stonetalon Mountains, and fish up Watertight Crates in Windshear Crag, where the Venture Co. is so active. Fish in pools of floating debris or wreckage. The journal is BoP and unique, so any character that has either a journal (be it in inventory or bank) OR the Find Fish skill cannot loot them.

The best way to provide journals to others is to have one toon fish up the crates, and mail them UNOPENED to another toon who has fishing but not find fish. He opens the trunks, but does NOT LOOT them. This allows you to find the trunks with the journals in them, and mail them off or bark them in trade.

Hmm...since everyone seems to have *vastly* different experiences at the same locations, I'm wondering if there's some external factor involved with the drop rate.

For example, the number of any particular type of fish you reel in can be dependent on the time of day and location where you're fishing. Perhaps there's something similar with the crates, like the time of day (or day of the week) at a particular location, or how recently the nodes have been fished out? (For example, maybe they drop more often during the afternoon along the shore of STV, but practically disappear late at night, and maybe around that time, the drop rate picks up in Hillsbrad, and so on.)

Or perhaps the drop rate is keyed to something, like the fishing skill of the character who first looks in the crate? (I mean, the ability to find fish would be of considerably more use to someone with a low fishing score as opposed to a character whose fishing is almost maxed out, wouldn't it?)

I don't use the Wowhead addon (I'm running the game under Linux, and on my rickety old machine, it's all I can do just to get it to run :-), but my understanding is that it doesn't track the time of day (or day of the week) when things are encountered. Any chance of the Wowhead devs adding that into the addon and working that data into the database? (especially since we just had a big content patch (3.3) and Cataclysm is coming down the road)

Fished the entire shoreline in Hillsbrad (every pool) as well as the stream running north/south and the pond near Tauren Mill. After a full circuit, nothing. Moved to Zangarmarsh and hit every pool of debris in the major lakes. Pulled 10+ of each type crate. Fishing skill is 220's to start, now 260.

I decided to go with the recommendation to head to Stonetalon Mountains and fish at Windshear Crag. Worked like a charm, on the 2nd box I fished up, found the book :) I fished 2 pools of oil before the wreckage pool. Found one box in a pool of oil, but it was the box I found in the wreckage pool that contained my book. Total time fishing was maybe 5-10 minutes max. It took me longer fly and run there on my mount than it did to fish it up.

Got my skill up to 256 and couldn't fish up this item anywhere. Read the posts and proceeded to Southshore, ran along the coast and on my 1st school of Firefin Snapper, I pull up the book. Southshore is definitely the place to get this item =)

there are many pools of wreckage along the coast of Stranglethorn, and the wreckage usually drops crates. i haven't seen this listed as a good place to fish this book up, but i decided to fish a Bloodsail Wreckage pool as i passed by while questing. fished up 4 mithril bound trunks, 2 of which contained the book. i would think that with all the wreckage, STV would be a good place to get this on lower-level characters.

I can confirm that Zangarmarsh Floating Flotsam pools are extremely good for finding the journal. Simply look for the floating piles of wreckage and start fishing around the large, steaming Naga pumps. I found my journal in the first crate from the first wreckage pool on the first cast, and from reading the comments, it seems others have found theirs quickly, too.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fish a chest containing this book even if you have find fish ability. But, you just wont SEE the book. Mail any chests to either an alt or friend who does not have find fish, and they will see any books you find.I tested this recently. My main already has 'find fish' and spent around 1hr or so fishing in feralas and wetlands. Fished out about 15 chests, 6 of which when mailed to alt actually had book.

I have caught it yesterday in Stranglethorn Vale. I've tried Zangarmarsh with Steam Pump Flotsams - no luck for 40 mins, and the floatsams are very rare. You can just go to SV, travel along the coast looking for Bloodsail Wreckages, however I have found the journal in a Firefin Snaffer school!

Had to create an account to post a comment about this. I was very skeptical about finding this book, seemed almost impossible for me to do on my 80 Druid, took me forever before randomly getting it from the Fishing Daily.

After looking around again, searching through Thottbot and the other WoW sites, I came upon a few comments that said they found theirs in a pool off the dock in Astranaar and quite a few found theirs at the Oil pools in Stonetalon Mountains.

So, I ran my 19 Druid down to Astranaar, went to the first fishing pool at the dock. I extended the chat window for your view.

**EDIT**I ran down to Stonetalon to check it out and it looks like a nice farm spot for the level 19 Twinks. I know there's not much information out there, so I thought I'd post it. There's a place in Stonetalon called "Blackwolf River" and the mobs that patrol around are about 18-21, so any twink should be able to take care of themselves here. I've ran up and down the river a few times just to look around and only had to kill one or two things. Found about five wreckage pools and three oil spills so far.

Right.. here is my 2 cents on this cursed item.First of all, Oil spills does not give you this. Where fishing in Stonetalon for an hour, found 1 wreck, which gave me 2 trunks with no book. All the oil spills gave me where Firefin Snapper and the odd stranglekelp.It seems to be like everything in this game, just a matter of RNG in your favor.As my rogue got it on the first try, my Death knight just can't seem to find it. There is a lack of wreck schools, and when you finally find one, you have to get a trunk, AND you have to get the book to drop inside that trunk.So that is 3 things that has to tip in your favor on the RNG. Had I not known that it is out there I would have given up by now.

Soo.. If you are having a hard time with this, and double, triple and quadruple checked that you have what it requires... just keep trying =/

Found this today on my level 41 warlock. Found it in the second schooner wreckage pool I ever fished in Hillsbrad on the coast filled with Naga contained in a water tight trunk on my third cast. I can confirm that you don't need specific fishing skill to fish this up. I was only fishing skill 7 when I found it.

Everyone says that you should look for "floating wreckage" or similar. I fished all schools and I got it in a Raw Greater Sagefish school in Stonetalon mountains. To be more precise, Blackwolf river in Windshear Crag. Just flew up and down the river and fished the schools. Took about 10 minutes.

Chillwind Point (65, 36) school of Sagefish. Fished it two times both dropped a Watertight Trunk. Second trunk had the journal in it. Seems fishing schools is the way to go!

Fished one up from greater sagefish pools in Southfury river. It doesn't have to be fished out of floating wreckage exclusively, works for pools of fish as well. Easy to level up fishing with lures and auto loot on. But each time I fish up a Водонепроницаемый сундучок, I turn auto-loot off. Once you learn to Поиск рыбы you can't fish it (the journal) up again. Good for low level characters to make some side cash when a higher levels don't want to fish for it.

Be sure to check the firefin snapper and oily blackmouth nodes if you are looking near grom-gol. That is where I found an iron-bound trunk with this book.

Per the advice above, I went to Stone Talon Mountains and was in the water's near Windshear Hold. I was specifically at the water at 50, 45 (Mirkfallon Lake) and 62,50 (Blackwolf River). At Mirkfallon the Iron-Bound Trunk had a drop rate of 20% and Blackwolf River had a drop rate of 16% (Note there were more pools in the river as opposed to the lake). You are going to be fishing for greater sagefish pools. After about 20 minutes the journal spawned from about the 8th or 9th Iron bound trunk I looted from the sagefish pools.

I can confirm that you don't have to be fishing skill 100 to get this. On my alt, I got this from the bag of shiny things the first time I did the Orgrimmar fishing daily with a fishing skill of 9. Too bad I don't have that kind of luck on my main :/

Doing daily fishing quest in Orig along the South Fury River in northern Barrens . Fished in a Sagefish pool and first cast got watertight box opened it and got the book. Might wanna check there. 71;13 are the cords. Gotta be in Northern Barrens. ;) Hope this helps someone.

This is probably just my mis-interpretation of it being a random drop. But I thought I would mention it anyway. I decided to start leveling my fishing skill on my level 30 mage today and started off of the southern coast of Westfall and worked my way up the coast to the north. Within getting my first 5 points in fishing from either a Firefin Snapper or Oily Blackmouth pool, I got one of those boxes.

The point I wanted to make is it seems to me like there is a higher chance of getting one of those trunks (or whatever they are called) when the bobber lands on the outer edge of the school of fish. 2 Shiny Baubles and 40 points later, I reached the northern part of the coast of Westfall (approxiamately 20 minutes) and I had reaceived around 4 of those trunks and got my Fish finding book.

If anyone else has noticed a similar pattern or cares to test it out, please post here and let the rest know what you discovered.

These Истрепанный журнал drop rate has been increased for Окованный мифрилом сундучок i think.I fished 20 of these from STV, didn't even looked into them with my main and directly sent em to my alt who have fishing skill but under 100.I looked all of the 20 crates and there are total 6 Истрепанный журнал in these trunks.So if anyone check STV coasts for mithril bound trunks,we can prove drop rates increased.

I have only skimmed through some of the comments but I could not find anything on this matter. I was fishing in the South-East lake in Wetlands looking for this book and could only find Sagefish Schools, no floating wreckage whatsoever. So now I'm thinking the schools and wreckages might share spawn timer, because I decided I would try to fish up some sagefish and minutes later of looking, a floating wreckage spawned.

Again, I don't know if this has been pointed out or I might just be completely wrong, but I thought I'd just give you my thoughts. Also, the Sagefish Schools have a slight chance of dropping the trunk which contains the book, so if you can't find any wreckages at this lake, just fish in the schools.

So ive been trying to get this for months and months from the daily quests because i never remember having this book then today i decided to get it for good went to zangarmarsh and looked for crate then after 5 crate decided to see if i already had the skill, and well ya i did. So somewhere along the line i got the ability to find fish but dont know how or when.

How to make lots of gold off these:Step 1: Fish up lockboxes from wreckage. DO NOT OPEN THEMStep 2: Make a bank alt or use a bank alt that doesn't have find fish, but has the fishing skill to open all the chests.Step 3: Return the chests to your main once they have been revealed to have the journalStep 4: Sell the chests for high prices

Tips for selling the chests:Use trade, nobody will buy from AHPeople will think it is a scam, so first give them the chest, then tell them to pay you.

Found this randomly today at 9:42pm Server time, wasn't looking for it and had no idea what it was. Just was doing a fishing daily in Stormwind, then I found the journal in a shiny bag of things. Discovered that it is quite a nice luxury :) By the way, fishing level was 372 using Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole and shiny baubles.

WARNING: Do NOT use the mail system to transfer these! I mailed 2 of these to my banker and they both disappeared. I thought my banker just couldn't see them, but upon mailing them back to the toon who looted them originally (and saw a journal in both of them), they were gone there as well!

Tried to get one today. There was only one debris pool total in STV and neither of the two crates had this. Went to Zanga where there are lots of flotsam pools. I got it from the sixth crate (with one crate per pool caught).

this not a matter of luck that ive seen, simply fish pools of wreckage (not pools of fish). if you are qualified (ie, of high enough lvl in fishing) to get the book, it will be in the box you get when you fish the pool of wreckage. ive fished dozens of boxes on many toons, and once you hit about 85 or so in fishing skill you WILL get the book. the chance of book has nothing to do with who fished the box, but only who OPENS the box. Ive even gone so far as to stock boxes in my bank to give to lowbie alts when they hit 85 fishing skill so they dont have to go looking for themselves. skill fishing up to 85, get box from bank, open it and instant fishing book.

Just got this from a Mithril Bound Trunk, fished up in a Stonescale eel school in Blasted lands.

Entered zone at about 243 Fishing skill, caught this just as I turned 275. Had quite a few trunks before that with only trade goods in them.

I rode up and down the coast fishing in every school I saw.

Got this from fishing my first Schooner Wreckage in Wetlands and it was inside a Watertight Trunk with 200 level of fishing and no extra bait or special Fishing Poles used.So I strongly recommend trying this first :)

Instructions for how to get Weather Beaten Journal within 10-15mins. (This is bloody easy... don't waste your time like I did... )

1. Go to Zangarmarsh - Serpent Lake2. Fly around the edges of the lake and look for Steam Pump Flotsom pools (a heap of wood in the water)3. Make sure your bobber lands in the pools - you will get Heavy/Curious Crates4. Fish crates until you get the journal or when pool fades go find another pool and keep fishing for crates.

Not sure if this makes a difference but...you can fish without equipping your fishing pole now. I fished several crates from zangarmarsh and wetlands, but never got the journal. I noticed I did not have my fishing pole equipped in the weapons slot. I equipped it and the very next crate I got the book.

Usually, when I want the journal on a given toon, I just go out to Stranglethorn and have it in ten minutes. Today, however, it wouldn't drop. I fished up trunks all over the vanilla areas (stranglethorn, wetlands, hillsbrad, plaguelands) and it wouldn't drop. One of the two rules of no-drops is to change locations. So, I went to Zangarmarsh and I got the journal on the second wreckage spawn. The other rule: When it won't drop, you already have it; go look again.

This book has eluded me for the last week straight. I've fished for hours in every discussed area and type of wreckage. Countless boxed opened and nothing but random crap in them. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. This is so frustrating.

After learning the skill, to activate it go to the 'tracking' tab (hourglass) on your minimap, then check 'find fish.' I realize this is dumb, but if you're not used to tracking things you might not have thought to look there.

After fishing up the various Shipwreck Debris around Darkmoon Island MANY times, I have never received a Sealed Crate with the Weather-Beaten Journal inside. A Sealed Crate appears to not be one of the many containers that can contain the journal.

While you will receive many interesting and useful items, I wouldn't bother looking for the Weather-Beaten Journal to learn Find Fish on Darkmoon Island. There appears to be many more locations with positive results.

Get your fishing to AT LEAST a 100, i am not sure does this affect your chance at getting the book but you need at least 100 fishing to learn Find Fish.

Go to Serpent Lake in Zangarmarsh.

Equip your fishing pole - seems extremely important, the journal might never drop if you don't have the fishing pool equipped!

Look for some wreckage "pools" in the lake that look like a bunch of crates/boxes and wood planks floating.

Fish exactly from the pool - you will get various drops, including some boxes of "white" quality that can be opened.

I got my Journal from the first wreckage pool (it was located in the 3rd crate i looted from that one wreckage pool).

It's important that just the presence of this book in your inventory is apparently enough to prevent you from seeing additional books (whether you learned it or not). I fished up a book, looted it accidentally, and left it sitting in my bags unlearned while I fished up more crates. I checked them all - no books. Mailed them to a level 1 fishing alt - a book became visible in one of the crates.

I just thought I'd help those who , after node after node , come up empty handed. It seems the best way to get the journal is by doing fishing dailies in major cities such as SW and neutral fishing dailies such as outland and dalaran dalies. I did just one fishing daily in SW and got the journal first try. Hope this helps.

Note: Results may differ for each person, but still the best way IMO

Just go to wetlands, fish the Sage fish pools. I got mine on 3rd pool on 1 character, and 5th on another. Sage fish pools have like 6-7 fish attempts to them and you usually get 1 trunk per pool. I spent 40mins flying around looking for floating wreckage only to find 2, which only dropped 1 trunk, which had junk.

I was a little worried looking at how old the comments were that in MoP I would have a hard time getting this from the Steam Pump Flotsam in Zangamarsh, and for some reason those pools were obnoxiously hard to find- whenever I fly past Zangarmarsh on my other toon there's always a billion debris pools, but whatever- I managed to get this out of a normal pool. I was fishing normals to get the debris to spawn and it was in a Curious Crate from a Brackish Mixed Pool. Took about half an hour of farming, but hey, Find Fish yay!

I got my most recent Истрепанный журнал 3rd cast in an Косяк масляного черноротика just past the dock at the Ruins of Southshore, southern end of the Silverpine Forest. Received Водонепроницаемый сундучок right clicked and voila, Крепкая удочка & Яркая блесна was all I had for gear, and the only beasties to bother me were some Волнолов из племени Порванного Плавника and Оракул из племени Рваного Плавника... fairly low level so it was no problem.

On a side note, being new to the Zul'jin server, I've been leveling toons like mad and in the last week I've gotten the Истрепанный журнал twice fishing the river that runs from Western Plaguelands down to the Ruins of Southshore, I was on my way to this river when I stopped to fish the Косяк масляного черноротика mentioned above. Lower down the river are Косяк шалфокуня and as you work your way up it changes to Косяк большого шалфокуня. Both toons were level 22-23 fishing skill 140 -160, with Крепкая удочка & Яркая блесна for gear. If you skin at all the Хрустогрыз & Дикая лошадь are a great source of Тонкая кожа and a break in the monotony :) I had it on both toons within about 40 minutes of fishing. I've included a screenshot of my map to show the location.

First I tried for this with no fishing pole. Fished for an hour in Zangarmarsh. Lots of crates, no book.

Then I equipped my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole. Fished for an hour in Zangarmarsh. Lots of crates, no book.

Then I went and bought a basic fishing pole. Got book in the fourth crate.

Your mileage may vary, but it looks like the quest fishing pole didn't cut it.

Fished a crate from Обломки парового насоса (which does still spawn) in Зангартопь. First node of that type that I found yielded a crate with the journal.

~3 Косяк морской рыбы nodes dropped a lot of crates as well, but they only contained BC crafting materials. Not sure if they would drop the journal as well.

I got this for my main 23rd June 2014 to find stuff easier for pandaren cooking.

Your best move is to go to wetlands, search entire area for Schooner Wreckages because they almost ALWAYS have between 1-3 trunks. (I say this because i once fished one that literally gave me Stranglekelp every cast.)

After you've searched for them all, go back and fish up all the sagefish schools, because they have a 10% chance to have a trunk with each cast as well.

I got about 50-50 of my trunks from each since there are significantly less schooner wreckages than sage fish schools. and I found it in about my 12th trunk.

Got this today from a bag of shiny things from my fishing daily in Org. So happy because literally the night before I was reading the extreme anglin guide and was determined to get that today. First thing I did was finish the daily I picked up the day before turned it in and this was my reward. Goin after the Sea turtle mount now! Think I've written about this before, but if so It now needs to be underlined even more.

To get the weather-beaten Journal, the last 4 times I've with success done exactly the same routine.

1. Take the portal to the Dark Portal.2. From there I go slightly SE to a little raft in the water called: " Abandoned Bloodwash Crate "with 3 "Rockpool Tadpoles" on it ( 3 little murlocs ) Coords: 68,47-79,76.3. To the right of this crate is always a floating wreckage (unless somebody just fished it) that I fish in.It drops red crates every time, last time it dropped 4 crates on 4 throws and the journal was in the first.:)I took up all that came until the pool disappeared. Thought I would get 1 journal extra for my last char.

Now I only have my eleventh char left on this realm and he will for sure also do the same routine.

During patch 6.0.2, got it the very first time I fished on a Обломки парового насоса, in The Lagoon (Zangarmarsh). Incidental details: I was at level 90 with under 190 fishing skill.

If you're having trouble with this just go to Booty Bay from Ratchet then fly/swim/ride up and down the shoreline looking for wreckage piles to fish in.

Once again I find myself setting of on a fabled fishing adventure in the hopes of bringing home that big one, the Истрепанный журнал...

You see, everyone that sets off on this wonderous adventure shall most likely experience mixed feelings and emotions from the excitement of the first cast in unknown waters, to the frustration of hundreds of casts with no journal in sight!

But be certain of this, it shall be an adventure, short in time for some and long for others!

From my personal experience of fishing this journal up for many alts over the past few years, at this moment in time, the best luck that I have had is in the waters within Зангартопь.

Typically, I will port into Шаттрат and then make my way over to the lakes in Зангартопь at which time the true adventure begins...

I move around the lakes edges, fishing every pool of Обломки парового насоса and Косяк морской рыбы that I come across and when I do fish up a crate, I think to myself, "what a wonderful day" and please, oh please be in this crate!

You see, on a very rare occasion, the crate that contains the Истрепанный журнал will fish up in only one or two casts from these pools, but if the moon is not right or your a lot like me, it could take a long, long time!

So do be patient, enjoy the views, relax with some music or whatever does it for you, fish those pools, then fish them some more, check the crates and jump for joy or grin to yourself when you fish up not a fish, not trash, but that wonderful reward, the Истрепанный журнал.

Just did my daily quest Безротый скрытиус and got a Истрепанный журнал. I find it very odd that being level 100 for almost a month and fishing in various locations around the world I've only just now received this item. Where as on very other toon I got it before I was even level 20 or before fishing was level 100.

Get to lvl 100 fishing and fish in a low level pool until one of the watertight trunks that is fished up gives you the guide. Any beginning pool, any type of fish, any pole, bait or no bait. You WILL get the journal. Eventually. With 8 alts in the past 4 days, the quickest was 3 casts. Much more typical is 7-10 pools. If you are unlucky, it could be 25 fishing levels before it finally drops. Then there was Venturous, my blood elf paladin. He went from lvl 125 fishing to lvl 253 fishing (was doing high lvl pools tho) before the dang thing dropped. Another alt quickly caught 8 watertight trunks before the journal dropped. Geez. As a a test, I had one of the alts that had just reached level 100 fishing use a level one pole, no bait, and fish the beginning Sagefish pools in Durotar. 18 casts, 3 trunks, and the journal dropped on the third chest.

So get to fishing level 100, grab your best pole and put some bait on (it does not increase your chances at all but you look cooler) and find a spot with lots of low level pools to fish in. The Southfury River in Durotar for Horde, and the shore of Darkshore for Alliance. It WILL drop, no place special needed to fish, just pools, lots of pools. Of course, wreckage pools are the best as they drop lots of crates (not Darkmoon Faire ones tho)

I just finished the Draenor fishing meta. 500 fish or so out of however many pools, and never received the journal. Maybe you don't get crates from fish pools in Draenor?

This item has been slightly bugged for some time in that once you open a crate that contains a journal you will never see another one. This is especially irritating if you're farming them to sell - I accidentally opened a crate with one and deleted it, now I can never learn one on that toon.

Tried to get the plans from STV but without success.If you will have look at the crates amount spawns you will see that Wetlands is the best location.Recived mine next to menethill harbor as a horde :) good luck everyone !

Sometimes there is far too many comments to sort through and a small detail gets overlooked, so I'm going to make a TL;DR post.Case in point today, I read and reread suggestions on how and where to get the journal. After a couple of fruitless hours, I happened across someone's comment that you had to equip a fishing pole in order to get the journal. I hadn't the whole time I was hunting it. I equipped it, and two wreckage piles later, there it was.So, regardless of where you fish (I got mine in old Blasted Lands along the southern shore), make sure you've got your pole equipped. I fished up 1 Watertight Trunk from around every 3rd Sagefish School.In the end I had looted around 10 Trunks before I finally got the journal.

I've read several comments posted here and I believe I can save many people time and trouble. Yes you can receive this as a daily fishing quest reward, but it takes longer...much longer. You can go out on your own and fish this up. The fastest and easiest way to do that is by fishing pools...any pool. You DON'T need a pole. You DON'T need lures or fancy fishing equipment. You DEFINITELY DON'T need to try to find wreckage pools. The only thing that you must have (as the tool tip on the journal says) is your fishing skill at 100 or higher. The journal will be contained inside one of the trunks or crates you fish up out of the pools, so don't delete or overlook any of those types of items. I just took my new lvl 60 DK out to fish this up and deliberately did not use any fishing gear to catch it. I was in the Western Plaguelands fishing around Darrowmere Lake going from pool to pool, skipping over any wreckage pools on purpose...just fishing normal pools. It took about 8 pools before fishing it up. All my other toons have this journal too. Only a few got it by quest reward. Most of the others I just took out fishing to get the book. After reading comments here I wanted to test it out to see if you needed to do all the other things that some are saying you have to do...and the good news is you DON'T. Just go out and fish. I know this will save many of you a lot of effort. Happy Fishing!

I fished six Косяк шалфокуня in Durotar without a drop. Took the boat to Booty Bay, first Обломки кораблекрушения Кровавого Паруса dropped three Окованный железом сундучок. On the second open, Истрепанный журнал. It may be required to fish wreckage, but it seems to help.

Just acquired on an alt with level 72 fishing. Fished up in an Oily Blackmouth pool near Ruins of Auberdine. It was inside an Iron Bound Trunk. You don't need to have your fishing to 100 to fish this item up. Took about 4 pools before I found it.

I looked up "find fish" here and some of the comments said that extra journals could be mailed to alts; untrue. They are bind on pickup. Also a lot of comments recommended the wreckage pools in Wetlands. Yesterday I spent several hours scouring all the spots shown on the map here and found two wreckage pools yielding zero journals. Again today, ditto. So I went to Stranglethorn. Went up the west coast, found a few wreckage pools and about the 4th one had the journal. I'd also tried several mixed species pools. In the past those occasionally yielded a trunk, but not this time - mostly fish and misc. other stuff.

Demon Hunters will be delighted to know that this can be fished up in Legion fishing pools. Just got mine from a Black Barracuda pool in the Cove of Nashal, Stormheim.

Just fished up the journal (the journal itself, not in a container) from a fishing pool in Suramar. No fishing pole equipped, fishing skill was 30 at time of catch (still requires 100 skill to learn, however).

I'm unsure how common this is in the Broken Isles as up until this point I've only fished on a character that already has the find fish ability. Will edit later if I find it on other characters.

Just fished this up from a Lively Cursed Queenfish School while on the world quest Lively Cursed Queenfish in Azsuna. My fishing skill was 310. I did not have any fishing equipment equipped including a fishing pole.

This was my first cast in the Broken Isles on this character. It was probably just good luck, but I like this kind of luck!

I found that the river around Andorral is a very good place to farm this if you're looking for it. Just fly along the river and there are a lot of wreckage pools. Most likely, you will get the book before you get to the end of the river into the Eastern Plaguelands. When I did this, I know that I got it within 5 or 10 minutes. I hope this was helpful!

No point looking for debris anymore, that's a complete waste of time. Simply fish any pools you come across while going about your ordinary business (any continent) as these have just as good drop chance now as pools of debris. Broken Isles have plenty, but whatever continent, it will not take very long ;)

My rogue still didn't have this journal in Legion (granted, only around 300 fishing ). Got it in about the 10th pool I fished. Details: Cursed Queenfish pool (Azsuna), +75 lure, Arcane Lure (from Margoss), and a +20 fishing pole (Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole). No crate or anything, just fished up the book by itself.

So it does happen. BTW, I went to Zangarmarsh and in 1/2 hour of looking, found one pool and fished up nothing but junk (again, fishing at 300).

Update in Legion: If, somehow, you have a toon who doesn't have this yet (like I did), you can fish it up from pools. I fished it from a Cursed Queenfish pool (Azshara). Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole, +75 bait, and Arcane Lure. No chest or crate fished up, just the book by itself.

I have the journal for 5 of my characters now.

The secret location I use is Bogpaddle, Swamp of Sorrows (fly from STV or a city). Go down and then around the Temple of Atal'Hakkar toward the southeastern end of the map, making sure to fish in every single pool you see, including the wreckages and fish pools. After that go right back to Bogpaddle at the top of the map and look for respawns; fish pools in a zone re-pop when enough are depleted.

The reason for fishing every pool is that you want to increase the chances of wreckage spawning by resetting the pools.

I simply open up the 2-4 Окованный мифрилом сундучок after I finish up one wreckage pool. No fishing rod or high Fishing skill needed; as of 25th September, 2017, did it with a 1/75 Fishing skilled, level 62 Monk using the default branch, and looted the Истрепанный журнал off the 7th Окованный мифрилом сундучок obtained from wreckage pools.

Won't take too long, if you went about the circuit 3 times and still don't have it and are about to get frustrated, take a break, play something else, and come back to it later (as I have before). Though anyone who fishes in this game and goes after fishing achievements should probably be plenty patient, so I'm not worried at all.

Adding to the comment by user clerkboy, some information on the interaction between the Trunk containing the Истрепанный журнал, and the player character:

If you want to give a lowbie character Истрепанный журнал, you can have a higher level toon that has not used the Journal go fish up a Trunk and shift-right click for manual loot to check if the book is present. If it is, you can take everything else, and send the Journal off in mail to the character you desire.

However, the Истрепанный журнал will not be visible if the character has not learnt Fishing, so be careful with autoloot.

I am an altaholic and always get fish finder on all of my toons. Traditionally, I have fished these up from pools in STV as this was the best place to get them in Vanilla. Old habits die hard. On my most recent alt, I was fishing Oily Blackmouth pools around Ratchet and around Zoram'Gar Outpost in Ashenvale. I noticed in both cases that these pools do tend to drop a lot of trunks. Sure enough, in my fifth trunk from maybe my 7-8th pool, I got the journal.

Pick up 8 pages from Missing Journal Pages scattered on the ground in the area where you receive the quest. Combine these pages with the Incomplete Journal found on the ground starting the quest.

Very buggy for me; first it didn't give me the option of combining pages with the rest of the book. I tried abandoning the quest and restarting it, but (after it wiped away my pages) the game wouldn't let me start the quest again. Deleted the book, relogged the client, and now the quest was in my log again, trying to send me into the alliance camp (I'm horde).

You purchase the Потрепанный дневник for 500 Timeless Coins from Ткач туманов Ай

On PTR currently, handing in the quest lets you keep the Time-Worn Journal you bought and gives you a second one - meaning you can then return the one you bought to get your 500 Timeless Coins back.

On live you cannot return the book after completing the quest.

You'll get 500 Timeless Coins from the hand-in tho, and a non-returnable copy of the Journal, so you'll at least break even.

If you have completed this quest once, you can mail the book that Kairoz rewards you at turn in to your alts and not have to spend an additional 500 timeless coins. I usually just leave it in the alts mail until I have the quest and upon taking it out of the mail, I get credit for obtaining it. Don't know if this is intended.

I noticed within the last few days running Timeless Isle on several alts, that though I get the notification in the chat window that I have received the Time-worn Journal (back from the quest), it is not in my inventory. I have been having to re-purchase this book for any alts that did not complete this quest prior to patch 6.0.2.

Its been another 2 months now since Blizzard has acknowledged the problem with this quest, and still no solution? I realize that with the recent expansion a place like Timeless Isle is kind of secondary to addressing issues with WoD, but come on now. Whats next, just eliminating the entire Timeless Isle in an effort to force people to purchase and explore the new zones? How about an update on your efforts to fix this problem please.

So, Blizzard has known about this since at least February, judging by their post. It is now June and it hasn't been fixed? I would have thought that they could have fixed it by now. I submitted a bug report before checking here. I wonder if I will get coins refunded, or if I already have. I don't remember how many I had.

The diary entries are on the desk in the small room before last boss (Ravencrest), and you can get credit for this achievement in Heroic mode. Not sure about normal, yet.

After digging around the instance for a good hour or two on normal, I managed to find all six notes hidden in the instance, and took some screencaps to point them out:

Torn Page:Found in the Chamber of War Room immediately after the Amalgam of Souls fight, on a desk by the southern part of the room.

Dog-Eared Page:Found in the Grand Hall, it's in the hallway connecting to the stairwell that takes you to Illysanna Ravencrest, tucked in the back on a desk.

Ink-Splattered Page:Found in Rook's Rise, in the small round room connected to the stairs leading to Lord Ravencrest's Chamber after defeating Smashspite the Hateful.

Worn-Edged Page:Found in the Grand Hall, to the left of the broken staircase, by the bookshelves.

Singed Page:Found in Rookshold, the room filled with Wyrmtongue Tricker, on a table by three bookshelves and two weapon racks.

Hastily-Scrawled Page:Found in Lord Ravencrest's Chamber on the desk, at the end of the instance.

These spawn on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulty, and you'll only get one per run, making this achievement a six-run minimum.

I'd say the most annoying part about this achievement is the amount of times we had to reset the instance to get the page we needed lol. Other than that patience is a virtue!

I'd say the most annoying part about this achievement is the amount of times we had to reset the instance to get the page we needed lol. Other than that patience is a virtue!

Day 1:I found 5 tomes in 6 runs, this achivments seems easier than I tought it would be....Day 9: The elusive Singed Page did not spawn yet. I will keep trying....Day 283: I've been trapped in this place for month... maybe even years. Spider and goblins tried to eat me, I cannot tell what is real or what is a figment of my imagination, but I must persevere, my survival depends on it.

After 4-5 hours of farming BRH on NORMAL mode with the same group, we have yet to get the page at the last boss on the desk.

RNG Based dungeon achievements are NOT working, blizzard please.

User above posted the screenshots, but they're out of order from how they appear from start to finish in the dungeon. Updated order is below:

1. Torn PageFound in the Chamber of War Room immediately after the Amalgam of Souls fight, on a desk by the southern part of the room. Note: this is on the right side of the room facing the exit (aka, you entered the room after the boss fight aka the last boss is behind you).
2. Worn-Edged PageFound in the Grand Hall, to the left of the broken staircase, by the bookshelves.
3. Dog-Eared PageFound in the Grand Hall, it's in the hallway connecting to the stairwell that takes you to Illysanna Ravencrest, tucked in the back on a desk.
4. Singed PageFound in Rookshold, the room filled with Wyrmtongue Tricker, on a table by three bookshelves and two weapon racks.
5. Ink-Splattered PageFound in Rook's Rise, in the small round room connected to the stairs leading to Lord Ravencrest's Chamber after defeating Smashspite the Hateful.
6. Hastily-Scrawled PageFound in Lord Ravencrest's Chamber on the desk, at the end of the instance.

Oh good, a new thing to encourage tanks and healers to queue, then leave in the middle of the dungeon. Just what we needed. I've literally seen the same worthless $%^&tard tank leave mid-dungeon 3 times today, while trying to get a world quest done. Thanks, Blizzard.

After trying for over an hour to get the final page, I had the idea to use a shadow priest's Mind Vision ability to see if the last page we needed spawned. It does work, and you can check to see which page has spawned from the start of the instance. You just need a jumping off point to get to everything from the entrance.

With this method you can see every page except the one that is in the Chamber of War.

From the entrance you have to target a Wyrmtounge Scavenger or Trickster. I just did /tar wyrm. Once that is Mind Visioned you can then navigate to the different pages by targeting these npcs:

Torn Page: There are no NPCs in the room so you can't check it directlyWorn-Edged Page: target Commander Shemdah'sohnDog-Eared Page: target Risen Archer (you need to target one of the archers in the hallway that leads up to Illysanna Ravencrest)Singed Page: target a Wyrmtounge Scavenger or TricksterInk-Splattered Page: target a Risen Swordsman or LancerHastily-Scrawled Page: target Kur'talos Ravencrest (then from him target a Risen Swordsman or Lancer in the previous room)

You will likely need to Mind Vision jump from NPCs to check on all the spots since there are many NPCs with the same names listed.

Once I figured this out it only took us 6 more resets to get our last page to spawn.

Shamans, you can scout the entire dungeon using far sight and see which pages are up.

You are able to 'get through' the locked doors with far sight, it takes a little practice though.

On the first door, place far sight in the lower middle area of it, then swing your camera around a bit, sorta facing the ground, and you should be able to clip through enough to see the other side.

To get through the two iron gates just keep spamming far sight on the ground beneath the gate, face the camera directly down and just keep placing it on the ground as far forward as it goes, it lets you go like an inch farther each cast, you'll get through them after a few.

Turn off all your mods probably, you usually get a loading screen after every cast. Saves time waiting on loads.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch or not but after 7.1.5 dropped, I was unable to get credit for pages found in normal and heroic modes. Obviously it still worked in my next Mythic run.

Can anyone confirm that as of 7.1.5 you cannot look for books in normal & heroic? I mean the books are still spawning in normal and heroic but I fear that it won't give you credit unless you are in Mythic and Mythic+

Seems like the Normal/Heroic Dungeon Finder dungeons are static per day. I tried yesterday and got the same spawn 6 times in a row, and today two times in a row.

For everybody looking for info on doing this in normal during 7.1.5

I've done 20+ normal BRH runs so far in 2 days with pugs.All pages spawn(done page 3 4 5 6) and give credit in normal.Do not listen to anybody else, they just got bad luck

The trick to getting people is putting a group up under BRH Mythic in the finder so more people see it.For example I use the title: "Legion hero - read description", and then in the description tell them we're farming normal runs

For me, as a priest, Mind Vision did somewhat help to finish this achievement but it didn't reach all the notes (or I assume so since we didn't have any World Quest bosses present when we did it - two might actually help you "see" the notes if they're up). But it's still worthwhile doing. I got the achieve the other night doing this, but it did take a little luck for the last three pages.

First off, when you enter the dungeon, just stay in the front foyer. Use /tar to target a Wyrmtongue first thing. /tar Wyrm will do.

It will take you to a wyrmtongue demon that's wildly running around in circles chasing something (I forget what, probably a rat).

After that, /tar Comm (quickly, if you don't wanna get too sick). That will take you straight to Commander Shemdah'sohn of the Rooksguard, who is standing at the end of a room full of his risen guards.

From his viewpoint you can then jump to a Risen Archer to see if the Worn-Edged Page is up. It will be downstairs to the commander's right on a table/bookshelf.

From the Risen Archer you can then jump to other mobs down the winding hall from the room and that should take you to a table that would have a Singed Page on it. /tar Wyrmtongue Trickster usually does the trick for me, you might have to keep jumping from mob to mob to reach the table, though.

Cancel Mind Vision at this point. You're back in the front foyer. /Tar the running Wyrm again, then from there, /tar Kur. That should take you to Kur'talos Ravencrest. From there, /tar a Risen Swordsman. That will take you to a room with two guards that should have the Ink-Splattered Page on a table.

The Torn Page is impossible to "see" via Mind Vision since there's no mobs in that room (which you enter after the first boss). Fortunately it's not far from the entrance, just do a few normal runs to the first boss and keep resetting.

The Dog-Eared page is actually in the same room as Commander Shemdah'sohn and his Rooksguard, but it's around the corner in the hall to his left and you actually can't see the table in that corner via Mind Vision. If I recall correctly though, a World Quest boss will sometimes appear there. You might be able to jump to that boss to check.

Finally, there's another note in another room just before you come to Kur'talos Ravencrest, the Hastily Scrawled page. Wowhead comments seemed to indicate that you should be able to check that room with Mind Vision, but I couldn't. Again, though, there is a World Quest boss that appears close to there, which you might be able to jump to in order to check.

So TL;DR if you're planning to Mind Vision for that achievement, it would probably be a good idea to wait until a World Quest boss is up in there. Good luck!

I have been working on this achievement for days now and I am north of 50 attempts for 1 last page. I can confirm as others have that you can farm normal BRH for the items needed. I used an affliction lock at 931 and I could farm normal fast enough to hit the 10 resets per hour limit. If you are going to use a lock, do not forget to use your eye of kilrogg to save a little bit of time. Since it is basically guaranteed to farm this for a long time it is nice to also be an enchanter to disenchant the blue items you get. Also make sure to look at the screen shots of the locations to make your farm process as fast a possible.

On a side note, this achievement was designed terribly. The endless cycle of rng to get the items seems like the developers ran out of ideas while the project was due the next day, so they plugged in the old wow rng system and called it done.

I don't know if I'm incredibly lucky or if this has been changed but it only took me about 7 or 8 runs. I had trouble getting the page in the great hall to spawn but other than that they all spawned in unison one after the other. I solo'd it on normal and just reset the instance after. You only need to kill two bosses, the first and third.

Is the last page supposed to be one of those "it feels good when you finally get it" kind of thing? Because it makes no sense why they would make the chance for the very last page lower than the other ones...

So i'm not 100% sure if this is a "trick" or not, but this worked for me @ patch 7.3.5.

I had done about 10 or so solo normal runs of BRH a while back and managed to get the first 3 pages. I kept getting dupes of the first 3, so i ended up giving up.

I returned today, and on the first 2 runs, i got the next 2 in the series. I was obviously pretty excited about this, thinking they may have made it easier. Anyways, the next 5 or so runs I kept getting dupes of the pages i had just picked up, but NOT the previous 3 that i had picked up a couple months earlier. This got me thinking. What if, you had to log off, wait a bit then log back in? This may 'save' your completion status on a server kind of how your armory gets updated after you log off.

Anyways, i zoned out of the dungeon, reset the instance, logged off (not ALT+F4, but the 20sec logoff), waited a bit, then re-ran. Guess what the next page was? The last one i needed.

Now i'm not sure if this was a coincidence, or my theory actually works. But it's worth a try for someone giving this a go.

You need to be 5 people in order to get this achievement, me and some overgeared friends tried to 4man it but the buff didn't refresh when we killed the bosses.
