11:03am: So bloomin' busy Well what can I say. Absolutely no time to update this thing. Let me break it down.

College is mental, implemented a Wiki for us all to use about the degree show, coming in 2005.Getting my first book published \o/ That's gonna be cool, Darrel and I have got it together. A weekend at Ikea means our lounge looks better, I put down loads of wood flooring a week or so back. A new LCD telly will finish the job off nicely.

Halo 2 aint as good as I hoped it would be.

11:36am: "The following takes place between 11am and 12pm" I didn't fry the laptop - something odd to do with it's CD drive tho. Got the presentation done, all went well, that was back on Thursday.

Mum and Dad are back from France tonight/tomorrow morning, it'll be good to see them again, been pretty quiet round here, 'cept for Tigger ofcourse!

Went to Max Tundra's night and saw Kevin Blechdom DJin, from her laptop. Very interesting evening. Gutted to have missed her out at the V&A mind you, that looked to have been a proper 'performance'. Ah well, there'll be another.

Right, breakfast time!

7:53pm: Oops Oh dear, just fried my work laptop

That's quite serious actually.

Wonder what data I have on it, and what I need backing up.  Oh dear, oh dear

This isn't too good :-\

11:15pm: Next week First full week of work, and I have to go down to Ascot each day.  I've decided to commute, but if oller or jvcam fancy meeting up for a pint at some point just let me know :)

Good grief, I'm actually quite anxious about the work, I've got to get this database together, the application's going really well and I'm demoing it to one of the J&J companies in America the following week, so that's really exciting.  Just going to be a hard weeks work, but to be honest, I think it's time for that :)

Went to a film premiere of 'Rollin' through the decades' at the National Film Theatre yesterday, really interesting history of skateboarding from the 60s till today within the UK.  A good sister film to 'Dogtown and the Z Boys'.

Finished 24 as well, it's good, but to be honest, not that good.  Don't think I'll bother with Season 2 or 3, we'll see.

Right then.  Up early, so good night :) </a></lj>

12:10pm: Singlepoint Have it! :)

Just talked Singlepoint down BIG TIME....  So, I sent in my mobile phone cancellation letter yesterday, and they basically phone up worried.

The end I get:

Nokia 6230 and all it's add ons (including extra memory for MP3s and so on!) FREE250 texts, 200 mins at £34.49 a month.

Now I know that tarrif's more than O2's 30 quid for 500 texts, 200 mins, BUT, I managed to talk him down to the first 3 months free line rental, meaning that the monthly tarrif actually ends up dropping to something nearer £25.80.  That's pretty sweet now isn't it.

And, all this starts on Friday, which is nicer than having to put up with my beaten up Nokia 3310 for another month.  Bah.

Job well done I'd say.  Add to that I'm juggling my credit card onto Morgan Stanley for 6 months interest free transfer and I'm finally getting on top of some of these finances.

1:58pm: 24 Having never watched this, and had numerous recommendations, I've decided to download it.  The torrent has been taking AGES, I mean, like 5 days or something.  That's ripping it for a download.  I might, just might, be able to watch episode 1 this evening if it keeps up it's current 50kb/s.

Last night I watched 'Dawn of the Dead', the new version.  It was quite good, even if it is blatently predictable.  Some quite nice gore scenes, though the ending was a bit crap.  I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.

Today I'll be mostly authoring our Berlin video to DVD, it's my first forray into producing a DVD (I think I made one at college, but it was a single chapter 5 min job) so it'll be cool to see what I can get out of this.

For some reason I was absolutely convinced it was Wednesday today, came as a nice suprise it wasn't!  I'm in Ascot working all next week which is a bit of an arse, but I suppose it'll be nice to get some cash in.

12:43pm: Should get my act together today... And I never realised it was Norton Utils slowing my entire system down.

That's so frustrating, a clean install later and nothings quicker, but a simple 'add/remove software' sorts it all out.

Ok let's check out Panda.  Heard good things about that.

12:43pm: Some Berlin piccy's - One for Oller and Jonny

Very good, perhaps one of the best mods to a car I've seen.  Very timely with Doom 3 leaking to the net yesterday too :)

Charming... There's so much that should get explained with this photo, but forget that.  There's this box near Eberswelder Strasse where you put in your 2€ and get four individual photos back.  Luce and Clara had come to visit us for a couple of days and this was on our last night out on the way home...

To view the rest go http://uk.f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dancingmilo/my_photos what a disgusting email link.  I'll have to give that photobucket a try I guess.

1st August 2004

7:28pm: Back home Well, here I am now back in London listening my way through the records I picked up in Berlin, some really nice warm minimal techno stuff in here I'm pretty impressed with, for those interested check out B-Pitch, Ellen Alien's (Bitch-Pitch) record label. The DVD I got while I was over there, called Berlin Electro, or something similarily imaginative, explains they're based not far from where we were in Prenzlauer Berg.

Went straight over to Lane's after getting home on the flight yesterday, it was cool, but extremely exhausting, you know, when you trek across after long journey's, and it's really strange to feel slightly uncomfortable at hearing English spoken everywhere again. I'm quite impressed in how much my German came on over there actually, as was tested on our last evening when Minne and Marie (the couple who owned the flat we were staying in) had friends over for a dinner party. Their friends were quite hardcore, in as far as they spoke fast German and really didn't particularly make the effort with us, so had to really REALLY concentrate to keep up, was good though, and made for a brilliant last night. Ended up getting really drunk with Minne, and he was explaining about the flat share thing, and how basically he had to charge this year because he didn't know me, but next year I was welcome to stay in the place for free the next time... and he's given me all his details to sort it out, so basically it sounds like next year I'll have an opportunity to stay out there in Berlin for free, and it the large scale of things it's kind of interesting... say I was thinking of moving out there, would be a good opportunity to look for a squat or something while staying in the city. All part of the big plan :)

The night before that we went out to bars and clubs, was lovely to say goodbye to everyone we met. We started off, back at NBI, with a video preview of the new Jeans Team single (you know the group on the 2manyDJs track 'I sing ein, zwei, drei, vier, I sing a kleine melodie'), and then on to this mad place, 'Dr Pong', which was a bar area with a table tennis table in and you kind of did this round robin affair. Well cool. Then onto Pollocks or something, but by then Trev and I wanted to get out dancing so we dragged the others onto a club, Cookies, Nick couldn't fit in the taxi so ended up taking Regine's bike and we basically didn't see him for like an hour :) Regine was concerned, probably more for her bike... hehehe. Was cool saying goodbye to her there too, although it'll be nice to catch up with her in London when she comes over for the theatre thing in a couple of weeks.

So, basically, loads more of things that should've been written in here, like I've made some really interesting progress with my 3D animations, and I suppose I should get it together to upload them somewhere, and all the cool places Berlin threw up, as well as the people... but that's all going to have to wait, and I'll definately be thinking and mentioning events from last month for a long long time to come.

But, as things stand, Doom 3 is downloading nicely, so I better get the PC set up and ready for some serious action.

Good grief, London's so busy and so noisy :(

2:05pm: Triptych filming and other projects....

So, last night we got our arses in gear and rendered up three of our triptych films, each one of an incident.  In order of production:

  • A trip to Kaissers (read Sainsburys ;))
  • A tram ride
  • Nick getting stamps together for some letters

Now, I know that doesn't read like much, but believe it or not the outcome on video looks pretty smart, each of us took our digital video cameras and started filming at roughly the same time for the duration.  The way various screens linger on different objects and the speed at which the film works seems to lead the eye through reading it in a particular way.  It's nice and has led me to think about things like 'elastic' time, if one were to speed up, then slow down, kind of holding on various images - but perhaps a subject passing all three could bring them back into time?

I'm also wanting to get some of the textures of the buildings down here in Berlin recorded, time to get out there with the digital camera, we'll see what comes of that.  Got some ideas for a 3D rendering.

Yesterday was the last flohmarkt opportunity, and sadly came away empty handed.  Both Trev and I have been keeping our eyes out for these ex-east german army gym shoe, yours for only €8, but alas none to be had, and after being fined on public transport for not having the right ticket, I'm not really into paying over the odds for something.

On saying that, money's going well, and I've got a good full month and a bit lined up with J&J which should see me good and then some into next year.  Have it.

Thinking about moving out here next year, it really is that good (and so so much cheaper than the UK, I can't stress that enough).  Spoke a little about it with Lane, and was most suprised with her excitment for it!  It's cool, she comes out here for, I think, 10 days in August, so it'll be really interesting to compare notes.  Anyway, back to work, with only a week left here I better get my stuff together so I have something of interest to show.

Anyone recommend a good place to upload photos and stuff?  Yahoo photos just doesn't do it for me, plus I keep forgetting my password :(  Help appriciated!

Grandad, if you read this, I could do with your post address, got a handmade postcard here to send back! :)

17th July 2004

12:15pm: The cost of photo development.... Here is completely ridiculous! 20€ for one film, albeit a 36! Seriously, that wasn't funny. Meant I could only have the one beer last night, and the bar, which this friend of Trev's girlfriend, David, showed us is so near our place it ranks now up there with Bla Bla as a place to roll into when you need that last coffee/beer before hitting bed.

It was cool meeting up with David and his girlfriend, I've forgotten her name! She, like Nick on the exchange, studies at U(niversity) D(er) K(unst). It was the one exchange I was interested in taking, but didn't in the end. It was their private view night on Thursday and we went along, wasn't cheap (as all good private views should be), and seemed to have a mixed agenda, but was fun. All the art's pretty classical in the sense of stone, canvas and woodwork - whoa, sweeping statement I guess. On saying that Nick was with Tony Craig, so you can only expect a certain type of work to be encouraged.

It's odd, seems there are quite a few differences between the art educational systems in England and here in Berlin, not least of which is it costs literally 100€ to get your degree here, opposed to, what, somewhere nearer 3 grand in the UK, plus the obscene living expenses London throws at you.

Well then, halfway through. Have a short film and some photos to show for it :) Oh, and a rather crap paper cut image. Think a bit of time spent figuring how this next fortnight will work will be to my advantage. On the flip side, my German's improving :) Bis morgen!

11th July 2004

4:22pm: WMF - First night of 'not the love parade' Last night was pretty cool! We went out to a club Wmf, as B-Pitch were hosting a '(not the) Love Parade' party. Miss Kitten was playing followed by Alter Ego live, who I thought really got the place moving. Lots of really nice people their with time just to sit and chill or dance away.

Ended up rolling out of that place (though it was open air so the tranisition to morning was totally apparant) at around 7 into blinding sun light.

It's 4 now, I've just got up, the flat's looking a state and both Trev and Nick are out - presume they've gone to find a flohmarkt. I need a bath or something. The plan tonight is to do it all again, at Watergate. It's the International DJ Gigalo's night.

Good grief!

9th July 2004

3:13pm: Messy Haha, last night was rather messy now :) Ended up walking around till something like 6 in the morning. All good.

We've made Kraftwerk style costumes for the Love Weekend, they look well funny, a grid like pattern drawn with glow-in-the-dark fluro paint on a suit get up... let's hope we've got the guts to pull it off down the Watergate, DJ Hell and the Gigalo's are putting on what should be a storming evening.

Now, I have a crate full of empties and if I'm not mistaken taking these bottles back to the supermarket gets me refund tokens. That's the problem about the British you see, 'They just don't recylce!'

5th July 2004

2:43pm: Everyone's unemployed out here....... They just sit around all day, and then party all night into the next morning. Berlin, as a city, seems economically knackered.

All good for artists though :)

1st July 2004

2:29pm: Here in Berlin Posting this from the net connection they have in the apartment... that's right :) We've got the net in this AMAZING apartment, they explained that a group of young people have bought the building out and renovated it themselves. The apartment we're in has really high ceilings, huge spacious rooms with clean white walls and wooden floors, I've got to post some pics so you can get a better idea of this.

It's going to be an amazing month, Berlin look's amazing, and all prices remind you how much of a rip of the UK actually is. 40p for a large bottle of quality beer, 600 quid a month for an apartment that would cost nearer two grand in london. Make's you think.

Keep in touch :)

30th June 2004

7:48pm: Berlin... Right, my bags are packed, I'm ready to go, taxi's waiting outside my...

no, no, no.

That's not right, and with the bloody tube strike it's going to take me ages to get across town to Stratford to get up in the morning for our flight to Berlin.  Ack.  Well, sposse I can't really complain.

Love parade isn't on this year, but there's plenty of fringe stuff, should be exciting.

Winsstrasse here I come :)  I'll try and update this at some point, but if not, see you all in a month!

Current Mood: excited

26th June 2004

9:59pm: Loose change counted 20.08 €£ 13.80

Tidy.  Should do something constructive with that now.  Every little will help for the month in Berlin mind you.

Sonar was awesome, but I've let too many days pass so it's not going to be worth writing anything of significance, maybe when we get some photo's back I'll update properly?

16th June 2004

11:02pm: Off to Spain... Sonar in Barcelona is calling... time to head over to Gatwick for the flight
